Our Beliefs
"I've heard it said that it doesn't matter what you believe, as long as you believe it. This is simply not true! What we believe makes all the difference in the world. Here is a statement of beliefs that CrossWind subscribes to. If you would like to talk about these, please feel free to contact me." - Fred Lane, Pastor
1. The Bible is a collection of books written by people and
uniquely inspired God, which contains God's will for people in terms of
their beliefs and lifestyle. It is the only book that carries this
distinction, and as such, is our final authority in these issues. Jesus
Christ is the measure by which we interpret the Bible.
2. There is only one God, and he has three manifestations: the Father,
who is the creator, sustainer, and finality of all life and existence;
the Son (Jesus Christ), who is the human revelation of God and the
source of our eternal life; and the Holy Spirit, who is the continuing
presence of God in the world today.
3. All people were created by God for eternal relationship with God.
Each of us, by our own selfishness (sin), has broken away from God, and
left to our own means, will enter eternity without God.
4. Salvation is God's response to our hopeless condition. By Jesus'
death and resurrection, the possibility of eternal life has been opened
to all people. We must repent - turn away from old ways to God's ways,
and trust in God's ability to rescue us through Jesus' action. God's
response is to remove the eternal effect of our selfishness
(justification), grow us up in his ways (sanctification), and
ultimately welcome us into eternity with him (glorification).
5. The church is both the local assembly of christians and the total of
all christians worldwide throughout time (universal church). The local
church named CrossWind Community Church is composed of baptized
christians who are gifted and called to do God's will. CrossWind is a
free church, able to choose any connections with other groups as it
alone sees fit, and is responsible only to itself and God.
6. There are 2 events Jesus instructed us to observe: baptism and the
Lord's Supper. Baptism is the act practiced by Jesus in which a new
christian is momentarily dunked under water symbolizing Jesus' death
and resurrection. The Lord's Supper, a simple meal of wine and bread,
was initiated by Jesus, and its elements symbolize the crucifixion of
Jesus and anticipate his return.
7. Every christian has direct access to God through Jesus. Although
there are no human intermediaries, God does give members of his church
different roles which carry different levels of responsibility and
accountability.
8. God has given each person free will, thus each person is ultimately
responsible for his or her own actions. Also, free will requires that
there must be no coercion regarding worship or any religious matters
from either the church or the state.
9. When God is ready, Jesus will return to earth, ending our present
form of existence. Those who are part of his universal church will
remain with him forever. Those who are not christians will be separated
from him forever.
