LESSON TWO:  SIN, SALVATION, AND FORGIVENESS

Part I.  Sin

1.  What is sin?
 a.  Isaiah 1:2
 b.  Isaiah 53:6

2.  According to Romans 3:23, who sins?

3.  The Bible depicts the great drama of humankind, the relationship of God with the people he created.  The book of Genesis, chapters 2 and 3, uses a simple agricultural setting to teach the basic principles of that relationship.

a.  Adam and Eve (all people) are free to make choices in this relationship.
"To touch or not to touch"  Genesis 3:2-3, Genesis 2:9

b.  The real choice here is between trusting in God that he knows what's best for you, and trusting in self because you are a know-it-all.  (tree of know-it-all, of good and evil)

c.  Adam and Eve's sin (our sin) leads to a separation from God.  Genesis 3:23

d.  Romans 6:23 says, "the wages of sin is death."  Spiritual death is our destiny because we are separated from God, the source of spiritual life.  But sin also brings physical death to humankind.  Make a short list of bad decisions that people make which have an impact on the health of that person or another person.

Part II.  Salvation

1.  Salvation has a past, present, and future meaning.  When you believed in Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you were saved from the penalty of sin - spiritual death.  As you trust in God, one day at a time, he saves you from the power of sin in your life.  When this earthly life is over we shall be saved from the presence of all sin.

2.  Is salvation something you must earn from God?  John 3:16, Romans 6:23

3.  What does salvation help you to do?  Ephesians 2:8-10

4.  How are you saved?  Romans 10:9-13

Part III.  Forgiveness

1.  What does God want to do with your sin?  1 John 1:9

2.  If sin stains your life, what does God's forgiveness do?  Psalm 51:7

3.  When you are forgiven, what does God want you to do in your other relationships?
     Mark 11:25
