LESSON FOUR:  GOD THE SON

1.  JESUS IS GOD THE SON
a.  The Bible declares in Deuteronomy 6:4, “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.”  Yet, in Matthew 28:18-20, God is spoken of in three persons.  What are the three persons in which God has revealed himself?

b.  How can the One God relate to us in three different ways?  The word trinity (tri – unity) was coined during the great theological debates of the 4th century AD to express this understanding of three-in-one.

c.  The following verses describe Jesus as God, God the Son.  What name or phrase is used to identify Jesus as being one with God?

2.  JESUS IS THE CHRIST
In Matthew 16:16, the disciple Simon Peter declared about Jesus, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."  In each verse, what does it tell us about the Christ?

3.  JESUS IS UNIQUE
John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”  How else is Jesus unique?

c.  1 Corinthians 15:3-8

d.  John 14:1-6

APPLICATION QUESTION:  Mormons claim that Jesus was a son of God, but not THE Son of God; that Jesus and God are not one.  Muslims claim that Christians believe in three gods, not one.  How would you try to communicate the idea of the Trinity?
